Actress Sierra McCormick, who portrays a girl with a photographic memory on the hit Disney Channel series A.N.T. Farm, has stepped into her real life role as a pal to all with paws by participating in Pics for Pets, a DoSomething.org campaign that focuses on helping shelter pets by focusing a camera lens on adorable adoptables.
Paying a visit to the Best Friends Adoption Center in Mission Hills, California, the star snapped photos of adoptable Fidos and felines to share their stories with fans through social media. Having an adopted four-pawed pal named Princess Annie at home, the actress quickly bonded with one of Best Friends’ resident Rovers, Sabrina– a nine-month-old Pit Bull Terrier who was happy to strike a pose.
“Pics for Pets is such a cool way for young people to get involved in the animal welfare movement,” says Marc Peralta, executive director of Best Friends Animal Society – Los Angeles. “Teens and kids aren’t just the future when it comes to helping animals, they can actively participate now and help us Save Them All.”
Save Them All™ is the call to action for Best Friends, the only national animal welfare organization focused exclusively on ending the euthanization of dogs and cats in US shelters. Founded in 1984, Best Friends operates the nation’s largest no-kill sanctuary for companion animals as well as life-saving programs in partnership with rescue groups and shelters across the country, and has played a vital part in reducing the number of animals killed in shelters from 17 million per year to 4 million.
“We know animal welfare is the No. 1 issue for young people, so we created Pics for Pets to encourage young people to visit their local animal shelter, take a picture of an animal in need, post the photo to DoSomething.org/picsforpets and social media sites, help find that animal a home,” Naomi Hirabayashi, chief marketing officer for DoSomething.org, says. “A good quality photo can make or break an animal’s chance to get adopted, and who better to take a lot of pictures than teens?”
When information regarding an adoptable dog or cat is shared more than 400 times from picsforpets.org, DoSomething.org will donate supplies to that animal’s shelter.
