Commemorating the courage of the more than 300 search-and-rescue dogs who answered the call when the unthinkable occurred, on September 10th Animal Planet will air Hero Dogs of 9/11, a small screen salute to the specially trained canines at Ground Zero who searched for survivors trapped in the rubble, guided people to safety and helped in the healing process after that fateful day.
The hour-long special includes a tribute to bomb-sniffing police dog Sirius; service dog Roselle, who guided Michael Hingson, her blind human companion, down 78 flights of stairs, and the stout-hearted dogs who located the last remaining survivor, who was pulled from the rubble 27 hours after the collapse of the World Trade towers.
Continuing its tribute to dogs who protect and serve, following Hero Dogs of 9/11 Animal Planet will re-air Glory Hounds, a two-hour special which features an unflinching look at life in an active war zone.
Over the course of the program viewers will meet Zora, a German Shepherd who sniffs out IEDs; Emily, a Belgian Manilois who helps to track down Taliban insurgents; Azza, a veteran bomb-detecting Belgian Malinois; and Falko, a German Shepherd mix working in Afghanistan’s notorious Highway One.
Hero Dogs of 9/11 premieres on Animal Planet on September 10th at 8 p.m. ET/PT, followed by an encore of Glory Hounds from 9 p.m. – 11 p.m. ET/PT.
