She made us laugh as comedy writer Sally Rogers in The Dick Van Dyke Show and as Myrna Gibbons on The Doris Day Show, and now actress Rose Marie has put a smile on the faces of animal lovers by shining a spotlight on a paws cause.
While birthdays are traditionally a time to receive gifts, the classic sitcom star is asking that her fans help her celebrate her 90th birthday by giving the present of a better future to our four-legged friends with a donation to her friend’s animal welfare organization, The Doris Day Animal Foundation. On her official website the actress states: “It is the finest organization that I know, taking care of God’s finest creations- animals.”
Speaking about her former co-star, Doris Day stated that it was during the filming of The Doris Day Show “that I learned of Rose Marie’s great love for animals. She is a real pal and I love her dearly. I couldn’t be more pleased that her fans want to honor her birthday by making donations to the Doris Day Animal Foundation. Please know your donations will be put to good use in Rose Marie’s name.”
The Doris Day Animal Foundation, which recently celebrated its 35th anniversary, gives grants to non-profits to further their care of animals in need; funds the medical expenses of injured and/or senior animals who do not have to face their final days at kill shelters thanks to the Duffy Day Life Saving Program; and creates a brighter tomorrow for animals through the Doris Day/Terry Melcher Scholarship at UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine.
