Encouraging people with a passion for compassion to get in the game and help both U.S. vets and shelter pets, Sean Payton– Head Coach of the New Orleans Saints– has teamed up with Animal Fair founder Wendy Diamond for the New Orleans stop of the Bark Business Tour, which is shining a spotlight on the work of K9s for Warriors.
Taking place on October 11th at Loews Hotel, Payton– who led the Saints to a Super Bowl victory in 2009– will introduce K9s for Warriors graduates Sheri Martinez, who served in the Marines as a Field Wireman and in the Connecticut Army National Guard as a truck driver, and her dog Lola; and Chris Spikes, a disabled veteran who tackles his post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) with help from his service dog, Seal.
The patriotic afternoon tea presentation is part of Wendy Diamond’s 10-city Bark Business Tour for her new book, How To Train Your Boss to Roll Over, which she has dedicated to those who have defended our freedom. The upcoming New Orleans event has already raised more than $10,000 for K9s for Warriors, and so far the tour has raised more than $135,000– enough for 13 service dogs to be paired with 13 veterans.
Founded by Shari Duval (the wife of golfer Bobby Duval), K9s for Warriors is a Florida-based non-profit which saves shelter dogs and offers them new leases on life as service canines for veterans who struggle with PTSD or traumatic brain injuries.
