LindseyWhile she won’t hear the roar of the crowd at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, fans of both sports and Spots are cheering for alpine ski racer Lindsey Vonn for her decision to adopt a shelter dog.

Leo, a brindle Boxer mix who can sympathize with her present physical problem, is helping the athlete’s heart to heal after the disappointment of pulling out of the upcoming games due to a knee injury.

Taking to Instagram to introduce fans to her new four-legged friend, Vonn stated:

I adopted Leo today from an animal shelter and he has cheered me up so much! He was hit by a car and has a bad knee. Maybe we can do rehab together! #meantforeachother #bumkneebuddies

Enjoying her first days with Leo, the star skier confided to her Twitter followers:

The New York Daily News reports that the 2010 Olympic gold medalist found her canine companion thanks to Furry Friends Adoption and Clinic, a no-kill shelter in Jupiter, Florida which offers comfort and care to ill, injured, abused or abandoned animals at its full service veterinary hospital, and the chance to find a forever home through its adoption program.
