Following in the footsteps of Betty White, actor Jonathan Goldsmith– who is best known to TV viewers as the star of a series of Dos Equis ads– has stepped in front of the camera with Willy (an Anatolian Shepherd who is his real life canine companion) for the comedic clip “The Critique,” which shines a spotlight on Orvis’s annual Cover Dog Contest.

Orvis’s current Cover Dog Photo Contest runs through March 31, 2014. (Winning entries will appear in The Orvis Dog Book, Spring 2014 edition, with each winner receiving a $500 Orvis gift card.) Pet parents who enter a photo of their Fido for inclusion in the contest by February 15th will be entered into Orvis’s Million Dollar Dog Sweepstakes. The Grand Prize winner, chosen in a random drawing, will receive a year’s supply of Blue Buffalo dog food, a deluxe Tempur-Pedic Dog Bed and a $500 Orvis gift card. Five runners-up will receive Fleecelock Wraparound Beds, and 10 Honorable Mentions will receive personalized collars.

A happening with heart, since its start in 2009 the Orvis Cover Dog Contest has raised nearly $1 million for Morris Animal Foundation‘s fight against canine cancer.

“Morris Animal Foundation is grateful for our partnership with the Orvis Company and to Jonathan Goldsmith” said Dan Reed, chief development officer with Morris Animal Foundation. “This partnership will allow our Foundation to continue to fund the best science that will find preventives, treatments and hopefully one day a cure for cancer.”

“The health of animals, especially dogs is important to me, “ said Goldsmith. “the opportunity to help the Morris Animal Foundation in their efforts and also work alongside Willy was hard to resist. I’m glad to help and I hope people like the spots as much as we enjoyed filming them.”

Don’t you wonder why our dogs or cats are getting cancer along with humans…is it the environment, the food we are feeding them and us, the water they drink, the antibiotics we are feeding our farm animals and then our dogs along with us are eating that meat and the pesticides we are putting on the gardens and farm fields and we are eating the fruits and vegetables that are suppose to be healthy for us….our granddog has cancer. You wonder why…Thank You Jonathan Goldsmith and Morris Animal Foundation for fighting against canine cancer.
