She penned the New York Times bestseller Take 2: Your Guide to Creating Happy Endings and New Beginnings, and now entertainment journalist/talk show host Leeza Gibbons is using her star wattage to shine a spotlight on efforts to write a new chapter in the lives of homeless dogs.
A proud pet parent to Biggie, a rescue Rover who was adopted by the high-profile personality when he was four years old, in episode seven of the eight-part PetSmart Charities web series Rescue Waggin': Tales from the Road the former co-host of Entertainment Tonight and Extra discusses the need to welcome older companion animals into your heart and home.
Leeza Gibbons isn’t the only animal-loving luminary that viewers will spot in the webisode, as actor Josh Duhamel makes a cameo appearance at Animal Humane Society in Golden Valley, Minnesota to meet some of the adorable adoptables in the facility’s care. A doggedly devoted star, Duhamel narrates the web series, which was launched thanks to a partnership between his production company, DakotaKid Media, and PetSmart Charities. (Other famous friends of Fidos, including Veronica Mars star Kristen Bell, So You Think You Can Dance judge Adam Shankman, rocker Bret Michaels, comedienne Rita Rudner, Glee cast member Harry Shum, Jr. and entertainment journalist Ben Lyons, have also appeared in the web series.)
In the episode the camera captures the adoption stories of two more of the traveling tail-waggers who trekked 600 miles from Missouri to Minnesota in a PetSmart Rescue Waggin’ vehicle to find their forever families.
Rescue Waggin’: Tales from the Road showcases the life-saving efforts of the PetSmart Charities Rescue Waggin’ program, which transported 11,000 pets in 2013 in eight trucks which traversed to 41 animal shelters at 19 different destinations.
