Broadway Star Sutton Foster Adopts Shelter Dog

MabelThe curtain has recently risen not only on two-time Tony Award winner Sutton Foster’s new Broadway musical Violet, but also on the star’s new real life role as a pet parent.

The actress, who has won rave reviews for her performances in Shrek the Musical, Anything Goes and Little Women, has given Mabel– a pup from a Texas animal shelter– top billing in her heart and home, Associated Press reports.

The star, who defines herself as ‘actress, singer, dancer, dog lover’ in her Twitter profile, happily shared a snapshot of Mabel with her fans:

Over the years Foster has helped dogs and cats from New York shelters and rescue organizations step into the spotlight in their search for a forever home as one of the high-profile participants at Broadway Barks, an adoption event co-founded by Bernadette Peters and Mary Tyler Moore which will celebrate its 16th year on July 12th at Shubert Alley.

In the following Playbill video, Sutton Foster and other stars of stage and screen take on supporting roles as they show adorable adoptables to a canine-loving crowd at the 2011 Broadway Barks event:
