Two stars of the classic sitcom Laverne & Shirley recently helped efforts to “make all our dreams come true” for animals in need as they stepped into the roles of co-hosts of Ayla’s Acres Casino Night benefit.
Showing their support for our furry friends who have been dealt a bad hand by life, on May 16th actress Cindy Williams ( aka Shirley Feeney) and actor/singer Eddie Mekka (Carmine “The Big Ragoo” Ragusa) welcomed fans of famous faces, Fidos and felines to Treasury on the Plaza in St. Augustine, Florida for an evening of philanthropic fun.
Along with rounds of celebrity bingo, Texas Hold ‘Em Poker, slot machines and roulette, attendees also enjoyed performances by gosia & ali and “The Big Ragoo” himself.
Speaking about his admiration for the ongoing work of Ayla’s Acre’s with The St. Augustine Record, animal-loving luminary Eddie Mekka stated: “Animals fill a void in peoples’ lives and we’d be lost without them.”
Williams and Mekka are not the first small screen stars from iconic TV shows to offer a helping hand to Ayla’s Acres. M*A*S*H cast member Loretta Swit has raised funds for the paws cause with her art work, co-hosted the rescue’s M*A*S*H Match Golf Tournament with former cast mate Jamie Farr, and attended the grand opening of the rescue’s thrift shop.
A no-kill animal rescue, Ayla’s Acres offers a new lease on life for adoptable dogs and cats in Northeast and North Central Florida, as well as a safe haven for abused and abandoned farm animals.
