Helping to draw attention to animals in need, creative minds from the fields of fine art, fashion, photography, TV and music recently unleashed their imagination to beautify the clinical-looking “Cone of Shame,” transforming the devices which help the reparation process for our ailing barking buddies and purring pals into works of art which are helping homeless dogs and cats picture a brighter tomorrow.
One June 21st the public and high-profile pals to those with paws gathered at LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes for the More Than a Cone event, which featured an array of artistically rendered Elizabethan collars and art inspired by the Cone of Shame created by such animal-loving luminaries as Mark Pontius of the chart-topping band Foster the People; designer Todd Oldham; photographer Seth Casteel of “Underwater Dogs” fame; Mutts comic strip creator Patrick McDonnell; actress Mageina Tovah (Scandal, Joan of Arcadia) and more, with all of the creations auctioned off to benefit the nation’s largest no-kill sanctuary for companion animals– Best Friends Animal Society.
Funds raised from More Than a Cone will help Best Friends Animal Society’s Save Them All mission to end the euthanization of more than 9,000 dogs and cats each day in U.S. shelters.
