Swapping sports for the day, freestyle skier Gus Kenworthy– the 2014 Olympic silver medalist with a heart of gold who helped to save Sochi’s dogs in need– will throw out the first pitch at the San Diego Padres “Dog Days of Summer” event, with his four-pawed pal from the winter games by his side.
Kenworthy won’t be the only baseball buff who will enjoy the July 29th game with a canine companion, as pet parents who fill out an application at www.petco.com/petcopark will receive a free ticket for their Fido and two complimentary human passes to see the San Diego Padres take on the St. Louis Cardinals from seats in the Park at the Park section. (All applications must be approved. No walk-ups will be admitted, and only canines with a valid dog ticket can attend.)
Marking a decade of the Padres and Petco’s combined dogged devotion to our four-legged friends, the event will include:
- a pre-game “tail” gate party complete with giveaways and fun activities for both pups and their pet parents
- a pet costume contest
- the opportunity for pooches to promenade in an on-field pet parade
- adorable adoptables from an array of animal welfare organizations (including the San Diego Humane Society and Labrador and Friends) who are waiting for the day when they hear a loving pet parent say “Let’s play ball!”
