actressWhile only time will tell who will step on stage to receive the award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series at the 2014 Daytime Emmy Awards, nominee Melissa Claire Egan– who portrays Chelsea Lawson on the popular soap opera The Young and The Restless– has already won the admiration of dog devotees for using her celebrity status to help a paws cause.

Through July 9th fans of Melissa Claire Egan can place a bid at CharityBuzz.com for the chance to enjoy a lunch in L.A. with the animal-loving luminary, or talk with the star in a Skype session, with the highest bid benefiting The Riedel & Cody Fund.

A long-time supporter of the non-profit, in 2013 Melissa Claire Egan helped to raise funds for the charity by auctioning off a guided behind the scenes look at The Young and The Restless. Other celebrities who have shown their support for The Riedel & Cody Fund include former NYPD Blue cast member Sharon Lawrence, who promoted the 2012 12 Million Dog March, and Cheap Trick frontman Robin Zander, who re-recorded his song “Every Dog Has Its Day” to raise funds for the organization’s ongoing efforts.

Founded in loving remembrance of two courageous canines who fought against their forms of cancer, The Riedel & Cody Fund helps the pet parents of companion animals who have been diagnosed with cancer by offering funding for treatment, education, information and support as they battle against the disease.
