BernadetteOver the course of her career she’s won Tony Awards, a Golden Globe and Grammys, and on July 12th Bernadette Peters will help homeless dogs and cats win the hearts of loving pet parents when she hosts Broadway Barks!

Before stepping on stage in Shubert Alley to welcome dog devotees and friends of felines to the 16th edition of the star-studded pet adoption event, the performer stepped on to the set of Live with Kelly and Michael to introduce television viewers to four of the many Fidos who will be attending Broadway Barks!: Rosie, a six-year-old Shih Tzu mix with special needs; Sander a young Brittany/Beagle mix; Cola, a one-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier mix, and Ackley, an eight-month-old Hound mix.

Potential pet parents can meet the dogs who lapped up the limelight on Live with Kelly and Michael, as well as other adorable adoptables from New York City shelters and rescue organizations, when the curtain rises on Broadway Barks! The  free, outdoor event– which was co-founded in 1999 by Peters and Mary Tyler Moore– will include a presentation of adoptable pets by an array of animal-loving luminaries, including former Scrubs star Zach Braff (who is currently sharing a stage with Trixie, a Pomeranian who was rescued from a puppy mill, in the musical comedy Bullets Over Broadway); six-time Tony Award winner Audra McDonald (who is starring with a Roxie, chihuahua who survived Hurricane Katrina, in Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill); 2014 Tony Award nominee Jim Norton (who steps on stage with Violet, a 14-year-old, deaf Pit Bull who was adopted from the Brooklyn Animal Shelter, in an adaptation of John Steinbeck’s classic, Of Mice and Men); TV/movie and stage star Bebe Neuwirth; American Idol season one runner-up Justin Guarini, who currently stars in Wicked, and many more.
