surfdogTotally tubular tail-waggers will ride the waves for a paws cause at the 9th annual Surf Dog Competition, taking place July 13, 2014 at Imperial Beach.

A member of the Surfers Hall of Fame, Taylor Knox will join a panel of judges which includes Tillman the skateboarding English Bulldog and his human pal Ron; Jim Janney, the mayor of Imperial Beach; Brad Wills of San Diego Fox 5; Gary Weitzman, the President and CEO of the San Diego Humane Society and SPCA, and Vito Spano, the Vice President of Unleashed by Petco, who together will choose the day’s top hotdogging Moondoggies in small, medium and large surf dog heats and a tandem heat.

“As a supporter of animal adoption and pet parent myself, I’m stoked to be partnering with Unleashed by Petco to support both the surfing community as well as the San Diego Humane Society,” Taylor Knox stated.

The event will also include:

  • the opportunity to find a barking buddy among the adorable adoptables in attendance
  • a beginners agility course for Spots who find themselves inspired by the athletic ability of the Rovers riding the waves
  • a dog wash
  • an off-leash play area
  • the chance to mull over Rover-related merchandise at vendor booths
  • sandcastle sculpting
  • a chill zone
  • a kids zone
  • food trucks and a beer garden

A day of play for a higher purpose, all of the proceeds from the 2014 Unleashed by Petco Surf Dog Competition will benefit the San Diego Humane Society and SPCA, which has cared for homeless companion animals in San Diego County since 1880.
