Battersea
A recently unleashed book shines a spotlight on ultimately uplifting stories of companion animals across the pond who have turned the page to a new chapter in the lives, and thanks to the doggedly devoted staff and volunteers at a UK animal welfare charity now know that “there’s no place like home for the holidays.”

A 288-page tome, Christmas at Battersea: True Stories of Miracles and Hope features 14 personal accounts, with the mother of Battersea Dogs and Cats Home’s Executive Director Claire Horton sharing the story of the rescue Pug who helped to heal her broken heart after the loss of Claire’s father; and Battersea volunteer Elle Johansen bringing to light the tale of Faith, the Great Dane she found shivering and starving in a ditch. The kind-hearted rescuer stated: “To me, Faith’s story is what Christmas is all about– people coming together to help those in need, no matter if they’ve got two legs or four! After finding her in such a sad state so near to Christmas, we were praying she would make it through the holidays, and we’re so glad she did. Faith’s story is certainly one full of hope and love, and we know it will bring such joy to anyone lucky enough to read it this Christmas.”

As an added treat, the book’s forward was written by a famous friend of Fidos, Paul O’Grady– a Battersea Ambassador and star of the award-winning documentary television series Paul O’Grady: For the Love of Dogs, which each season showcases the stories of rescue dogs from Battersea’s three adoption centers in London, Old Windsor and Brands Hatch.

Royalties from sales of the book will help the renowned non-profit’s ongoing efforts to find forever homes for the approximately 400 dogs and 250 cats in the organization’s care on any given day. Battersea at Christmas: True Stories of Miracles and Hope is available at Battersea Dogs and Cats Home’s online store as well as through major retailers. (A Kindle edition of the book is currently available for US readers who wish to purchase the book on Amazon.)
