Broadway Barks 19 Helps Adoptable Dogs

The Tony Awards may be Broadway’s biggest night but, in the eyes of animal lovers, July 8 will be Broadway’s biggest day as stars of The Great White Way take on supporting roles in order to set the stage for a better tomorrow for dogs and cats in need.

Bernadette Peters at the 18th annual Broadway Barks pet adoption event:

For the 19th consecutive year, the curtain will rise this summer on Broadway Barks, an event co-founded by Tony-and Emmy Award-winner Bernadette Peters and the late entertainment icon Mary Tyler Moore. Produced by Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, once again a series of celebrities will help adorable adoptables from 28 New York animal welfare organizations take center stage in Shubert Alley in the hope that they will land a permanent gig in a forever home.

Broadway Barks 19 Co-Host

From Alex DeLarge in A Clockwork Orange and the title role in Caligula to Dr. Tolian Soran in Star Trek Generations, over the course of his career Malcolm McDowell has gained fame for portraying villains.  However, at Broadway Barks the iconic star will play the hero as he steps into the role of the pet adoption event’s co-host alongside his current co-star in the Amazon series Mozart in the Jungle, Bernadette Peters. Creating the poster art for the 19th annual Broadway Barks is McDowell’s co-star in real life– his wife, designer Kelly McDowell, BroadwayWorld reports.

Broadway Barks 19 will be an encore performance for Tony- and Emmy Award winner Bebe Neuwirth, who has taken part in the pet adoption event many times:
