My New Year’s Resolutions

We’ve once again reached that time of year: resolution time. I’m a notorious list maker (although half the time I lose the lists) so I always make resolutions. Like many years past, this year’s resolutions include work and dogs…

  • I will comment on more blogs. I lurk on many, many blogs and love reading pet posts but I’m terrible about leaving comments. I think it goes back to being a shy person; leaving a comment feels a little like jumping into a conversation at a party. This year, I’m going to be better.
  • I’m going to stop working earlier each day. Working at home is great…but sometimes the long hours make it seem a little more like I’m living at work. John and I start work by 8:30 every morning as soon as the morning walk is done and work until the 5pm walk (thank goodness for those walks or would we work all the time??) After dinner is cleaned up, I get online and work until 10:30. My new goal is to stop working at 9pm.
  • I’m going to try to get some dog training instruction. In surveying DogTipper readers this month, numerous readers said they would like to read about educational opportunities related to dog training and other canine professions. I’m looking into Triple Crown Academy’s trade school for dog trainers, located within driving distance of us, as well as some online options. I don’t know if any of them will fit my budget but I’m going to check them out. I’d like to go through the coursework and blog about the experience, hopefully learning skills so I can write more about selecting the best shelter dog for them and using positive reinforcement techniques to train a happy dog.
  • I’m going to keep a camera in my purse and carry it on walks. Our old  Blackberries don’t have cameras so usually I’m cameraless when running errands and walking the dogs but I resolve to carry my point-and-shoot. The big SLR may stay home but I will take the little camera.
  • I’m going to take more strenuous dog walks. A lot of our property is very steep; usually I stick to our trails or our road and avoid the steepest hikes. I’m going to try to start taking a more strenuous walk (make that climb) at least every other day so the dogs will get a better workout (and me, too!)
  • I’m going to stop making Tiki wear silly hats for photos. I don’t really mean that…Tiki just made me say it :)

Wishing you and your pack a very happy new year!!
