The Awards Ceremony, Part One

The past few weeks, we’ve received two awards from two blogs we really respect:
First, Boulder Dog awarded us the Stylish Blogger Award. We’re so honored to receive this from Deborah Flick, a writer we first met a BlogPaws. We love reading Deborah’s insightful posts including those about her shy dog, Sadie, who is now involved in Treibball. As our regular readers know, our Irie is a shy girl and we’re always on the lookout for information about helping to boost the confidence and enrich the life of a fearful dog.
The second award we received was the Memetastic Award (you know, memes) from 20something Saver. We’re so honored to receive this award from Elizabeth at 20something Saver because, as you know, we’re all about frugality here and how it can help you enrich your life with your dog. 20something Saver focuses on all kinds of ways you can save money in your life including with your dog (and watch for photos of Elizabeth’s own cuties, Cocoa and Oreo!)
Each of these awards comes with some tasks: thank the blogger who gave the award, share some things about you and/or your pets, and pass the award onto other bloggers.
The awards differ, though, when it comes to numbers. The Stylish Blog Award requests the recipient share seven things about yourself and pass the award onto 12 bloggers. The Memetastic Award requests the recipient share five pieces of information and pass the award onto five other bloggers.
Never a good follower of rules (hey, I’ve been self-employed for 20 years…that should tell you something), I’ve decided that we’ll share 12 pieces of information and pass the awards onto 12 bloggers. (I’ve made this executive decision myself without consulting John; he is busy writing posts…) These bloggers are being awarded both awards and can then choose which set of guidelines they’d like to follow as they pass the honors.
So, without further ado, here are some tidbits you may not know about us and our pets:
- We started DogTipper after a 20-year career as professional travel writers and guidebook writers.
- Irie’s name is a Jamaican patois word that means “all’s good.” We’d just finished a Jamaica project before we adopted her.
- Of our four cats, Irie and Tiki are closest to Felix, who was once a feral cat. He would have been the last of our four cats we would have guessed would love dogs, a good reminder to us that both our dogs and cats continue to surprise and educate us.
- Our cats’ names are Felix and Linus (our older boy cats, both age 11) and Coco and Inca (our girls, both age 4).
- The only food Irie has ever refused? A strawberry.
- Tiki really likes to have her photo taken. When the camera is out, Tiki is there.
- Tiki gets so excited that she sneezes. She also snarls sometimes when she smiles.
- We’ve done a lot of TV appearances through the years for book promotion but the largestĀ guest appearance was a show on the Fine Living Network we taped in LA. I felt like a star the other day when I went into the vet’s office and she’d seen it in reruns!
- Irie has us shopping for a larger bed. Our double bed is just not large enough for us, a cat or two, and 75-pound Irie. Irie is pretty sure if there’s enough room for the cats, there’s room for her.
- Irie’s nickname is Snugglebug (see Fact #9). And Couch Sweet Potato. And Irie-Wirey.
- Tiki wants to sit outside (in our fenced yard) every evening, listening for coyotes and sounding the alarm if she hears a howl. Irie does not.
- Our previous dogs since we’ve been married were Dixie, Hershey, Yoda, and Alby. Our earlier cats were Cheeto, Snickers, Shady, KitKat, and Elaine.
Stay tuned tomorrow for the passing on the awards. We’re selecting blogs that are listed in our Pet Blog Directory. If you’re not listed yet, be sure to submit your listing…and you’ll also find a special page with other resources on this site for pet bloggers, too!
