Our Happy Holiday

Share with fellow dog lovers!

We hope everyone celebrating today had a joyous holiday with their two- and four-legged family members! We have taken off the day to enjoy time at home including an extra-long hike with the dogs and lots of fun photo taking around the tree. Irie and Tiki received bully sticks in their stockings this morning (and keep returning to the stockings to see if more bully sticks magically appear!)

While we were taking photos, I thought it would be fun to share some of our favorite ornaments. As our regular readers know, for two decades, John and I were travel writers before switching to the pet writing field. On our travels, which were either for guidebook or magazine assignments, I often purchased Christmas ornaments and many of our favorites still adorn our tree. I still love the dough decorations from Ecuador (which we have to hang up high, out of the dogs’ reach):

…and this frog from Panama…ornaments-panama

…quite a few ornaments from the UK…

I still remember purchasing this gourd in Cancun…

…and this doll in St. Martin…

Our tree is loaded with many other Caribbean ornaments since the region was our geographic specialty. We have numerous Jamaican Santa Claus dolls:

…and this special moko jumbie, a stilt walker, from St. Thomas…

This year we added a couple of new ornaments to our collection when we went to see the Rachael Ray Show in New York City with the rest of the Nutrish group. John and I went to Macy’s for a few minutes and I bought some dog ornaments including this super cute poodle (since, after all, Tiki’s part poodle!)

Our fancy poodle joins several other dog ornaments on our tree, none more precious than those of our dogs past and present. This is our sweet Yoda; we said goodbye to him just over five years ago:

We treasure these handmade ornaments of Irie and Tiki that we received as Christmas presents last year:

We hope you’ve enjoyed your little tour of our Christmas tree! We wish all of you a very happy holiday!
