Macy’s Holiday Windows Pet Adoptions Campaign Underway

To paraphrase Patti Page’s toe-tapping tune about our tail-wagging chums, animal lovers will find themselves asking “How Much is That Doggie (or kitty!) in the Window?” as they stroll by Macy’s in San Francisco during the 24th annual Macy’s Holiday Windows Pet Adoption Campaign.
Through January 2, 2011, the display at Stockton and O’Farrell streets in Union Square will showcase some of the City by the Bay’s cuddliest cats and dogs who are wishing for a forever home this holiday season. On most days pets will be available for adoption from 9 am – 9 pm, with the exception of Thanksgiving and Christmas Day, when the store is closed. Potential pet parents can ask questions from on-site SF SPCA representatives about possible new furry family members, each of whom have been all been medically screened, vaccinated, microchipped and spayed/neutered.
Each day a new array of pups and purrers will get their moment in the spotlight in the temperature-controlled pet area in the hope that the high profile presentation will prompt their adoptions, much like the almost 300 pets who found families through the campaign in 2009. Since the start of Macy’s pet adoption window displays in 1987, more than 2,000 orphaned animals have been adopted and $250,000 has been raised to support the SF SPCA’s hospital shelter and community initiatives. This year the San Francisco SPCA hopes to find homes for 320 pets during the campaign.
