Senator Ted Kennedy and His Portuguese Water Dog

UPDATE: On December 24, 2010 it was announced that Splash Kennedy, the canine companion of the late Senator Ted Kennedy, passed away at the age of 13. In a touching e-mail, Kennedy’s widow Vicki stated “I like to think that he and his Master are playing tennis ball fetch again tonight.”

For years, the halls of Congress echoed not only with the formidable footsteps of some of America’s greatest leaders, but also with the padded paws of Splash and Sunny, Senator Ted Kennedy’s two Portuguese Water dogs. First Fido Bo Obama’s brother Cappy (a shortened version of the name Captains Courageous) would later be welcomed into the Kennedy clan.

A star in his own right, Splash (seen in the photo above) has been immortalized in a children’s book, My Senator And Me: A Dog’s Eye View Of Washington, D.C..
