Mickey Rourke and His Dogs

While many may have considered actor Mickey Rourke’s career to be down for the count after his heyday in the ’80’s, the Hollywood heavyweight came back fighting with his role in The Wrestler, which earned him a Golden Globe on January 11, 2009. Among the usual list of agents and fellow actors which every star thanks in their acceptance speech, the movie icon also made a moving mention to the many dogs whose unconditional love has helped him to heal from the wounds life can sometimes dish out, saying “Sometimes when you’re alone, all you got is your dog and they meant the world to me.”

Rourke has been the proud parent of a number of Chihuahuas over the years, and the actor attributes Beau Jack with saving his life when he reached the depths of despair. Although Beau Jack is no longer with the silver screen legend, having passed away in 2002, the dog’s spirit lives on in Loki, the tiny Chihuahua-Terrier mix who often accompanies the actor on the red carpet.
