While he may be dubbed “Mr. Nasty” for his biting critiques of participants’ performances on American Idol and The X Factor, Simon Cowell’s mean moniker does not apply in regard to his association with animals. The proud parent of a Cairn Terrier named Buster, the reality TV titan has appeared in a video for PETA, posed in a calendar for the PDSA (a veterinary charity in the UK which also has celebrity support form Rod Stewart, Elton John, Martina Navratilova, Jamiroquai frontman Jay Kay and former Are You Being Served? star Wendy Richards) and he has written in his will that a large portion of his fortune, estimated at $175 million, will go to animal charities.

Having participated back in January 2007 in the ribbon cutting ceremony for the Hope-Martin neutering bus, which travels to villages in Barbados in order to spay and neuter pets, Simon Cowell returned one year later and posed with an animal shelter puppy during a charity auction on the Caribbean island.
