He may be known as the “Prince of Darkness” to his legion of fans, but to the members of the Muncie Police Department Ozzy Osbourne is a prince among men after purchasing a four-legged crime fighter for their K9 unit. The newest addition to the team will be dubbed “Ozzy” in honor of the heavy metal icon, The Star Press reports.
Ozzy, who is expected to join two other dogs on duty shortly, will be taking the place of Rover, a German Shepherd who kept the streets of Muncie, Indiana safe for nine years. Now 13 years old, the former canine cop has earned the right to relax in style at the home of the sergeant who contacted Jack Osbourne about the police department’s dilemma.
Rover’s retirement would have meant one less dog for the officers to rely on, as training for the daunting dog tasks in their line of work would cost an estimated $10,000. The younger Osbourne, who became friends with the force during filming of the short-lived reality series Armed and Famous, quickly remedied the situation with the help of his father, who– like the rest of the Osbourne clan– are dog devotees.
Here’s an archive photo of the “Crazy Train” singer, sitting peacefully with one of the plethora of pets that have called the Osbourne house home over the years:
