The holidays have always been a time of good will toward men, and now animal shelters across the U.S. are hoping that the Hallmark Hall of Fame presentation A Dog Named Christmas will encourage its viewers to extend that good will to man’s best friend.
Based on the bestselling novel from author Greg Kincaid, the heart-warming TV special tells the story of a developmentally-challenged boy and a father still suffering from the loss of pets from his past who find that opening their home to a shelter dog during the holiday season opens their hearts in the process.
Actor Noel Fisher, who portrays Todd McCray in A Dog Named Christmas, could relate to the story line. “I volunteered at an animal shelter when I was younger, living in Vancouver. I have great respect for the people who work there and for the mission of shelters: to give dogs and cats a temporary, safe refuge, until – hopefully – they find themselves in a loving, permanent home.”
“I hope that A Dog Named Christmas will help spread awareness about the good work animal shelters do, and that through programs like ‘fostering-for-the-holidays,’ thousands of animals will eventually find loving homes. But it works both ways! I also hope that thousands of families will reap the rich rewards of having a beautiful, loving dog or cat in their midst.”
A Dog Named Christmas airs November 29, 2009 at 9/8c on CBS. If the production inspires you to foster a Fido for the holidays, visit www.petfinder.com/foster-a-lonely-pet.
