As actress Hilary Swank celebrated the holidays with her two tail-wagging chums Karoo and Rumi, almost 1.4 million of our furry friends were also enjoying the festive season with their new forever families, thanks to the two-time Academy Award winner and Iams Home 4 the Holidays.

The Million Dollar Baby star took on the role of a lifetime when she became the 2009 spokesperson for Iams Home 4 the Holidays, which recently completed its most successful adoption drive in the history of the annual program. From October 1, 2009 – January 4, 2010, 729,357 dogs, 588,265 cats and 46,016 other pets ranging from rabbits to reptiles were placed in loving homes.

“I’m proud to be part of such an amazing cause and I hope the many families who adopted through the IH4TH program will experience the same unconditional love and fulfillment my dogs Karoo and Rumi give me every day,” Swank stated. “I hope our success inspires everyone to get involved and continue to help eradicate pet homelessness because there are millions of animals who still need our help and we all have the ability to help make a difference.”

Although the next Iams Home for the Holidays project won’t kick off until October 2010, people passionate about pets can make a difference in the lives of homeless animals at any time by volunteering or making a donation.
