Elijah Wood Helps Homeless Dogs in Chile

He may have saved Middle Earth as Frodo Baggins in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, but Elijah Wood’s recent real life role has helped in the quest to save the lives of dogs in danger. The actor (seen above with a barking buddy in an archive photo) traveled to Chile to witness the damage inflicted by the February earthquake and to shine a spotlight on the plight of homeless animals by joining forces with the Yarur Bascuñán Foundation, an animal welfare organization which struggles against staggering statistics. (More than 200,00 abandoned dogs and cats live in the streets of the capital city of Santiago alone.)
During his four-day stay, the actor paid a visit to the foundation and was interviewed on Canal 13 TV alongside the organization’s founder, Jorge Yarur. Voicing the words of all who care for our four-legged friends, Wood stated : “It’s just a humanitarian act. As a human being your heart just bleeds for any thing or any animal or any person that is being mistreated.”
