An array of luminaries helped to shine a spotlight on the issue of homeless pets during the annual Bideawee fundraising gala, held on June 7, 2010. Animal advocate Beth Ostrosky (wife of shock jock Howard Stern and author of the new tome about tail-waggers, Oh My Dog: How to Choose, Train, Groom, Nurture, Feed and Care for Your New Best Friend) was among the almost 300 guests who– as the Scottish word “bideawee” suggests– stayed awhile at Gustavino’s in New York City, enjoying an elegant Fido-friendly fete presided over by guest host Montel Williams.
During the event, Rescue Ink‘s Joe Panz, Big Ant and Johnny O– whose mission to mend the lives of our four-legged friends is chronicled on the National Geographic Channel– presented the Bideawee Volunteer Honoree Award to Susan Schwartzwald for her years of dedication to the Bideawee Adoption Center.
Broadway star Mary Testa took center stage as the celebrity auctioneer, keeping the bidding brisk as attendees vied for a private dinner prepared at their place of residence by Top Chef competitor Daniel Gagnon; a private tour and lunch at the Good Housekeeping Research Institute; a personal fitting an couture creation concocted by Norman Ambrose; tickets to see the stars of Saturday Night Live as they run through a dress rehearsal of an upcoming show, and much more.
