Katherine Heigl, who will soon light up the silver screen in the dramedy Life As We Know It, has helped animal lovers in the Los Angeles area come one step closer to knowing life without the worry of pet overpopulation through The Jason Debus Heigl Foundation’s generous donation for The Compassion Revolution initiative.
Held on the 24th anniversary of her brother’s passing, the A-list actress– who is the proud pet parent of six dogs and three cats– announced at a press conference at The Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills that The Jason Debus Foundation has pledged $1 million for spay/neuter programs throughout the City and County of Los Angeles.
People with a passion for Pit Bulls will be pleased to learn that The Heigl Foundation, in partnership with L.A. Animal Services and the Los Angeles Department of Animal Control, has allocated $100,000 for The Apollo Initiative, which will provide no cost, “no questions asked” spay/neuter, vaccinations and microchipping for Pit Bulls and American Staffordshire Terriers in specific zip codes in the L.A area.
Cesar Millan, whose Millan Foundation supports the new initiative, attended the press conference with his Chihuahua, Coco:
In an effort to stop pet surrenders due to behavioral difficulties, a $50,000 initial commitment has been granted for a Learn To Be a Best Friend program, which will offer free to the public hour-long basic obedience training and pet health education, which will include a complimentary pet care gift bag from The Millan Foundation.
Katherine Heigl, who has already won a place in the hearts of dog devotees by transporting more than 4,000 animals from Los Angeles kill shelters to rescues throughout the country through the Heigl Foundation, has vowed that the organization will continue both its relocation efforts and its ongoing work to promote shelter adoption.
