Purebred pooches proudly promenading on the blue carpet at The National Dog Show Presented by Purina has become a much-anticipated annual sight, but this year Nestle Purina PetCare is also shining a spotlight on the everyday dog through the first online “Petcentric Dog Show Photo Contest.”
“It’s time for the everyday dog to get the recognition he deserves,” said John O’Hurley, former Seinfeld star, Dancing with the Stars winner and co-host of The National Dog Show, which airs Thanksgiving Day on NBC. “The Petcentric Dog Show is a fun way for dog owners to pay tribute to their four-legged friends who live in virtual anonymity compared to show dogs. And I must say I’m intrigued to see the entries we receive in the ‘Best John O’Hurley Lookalike’ category.”
Through the end of 2010, pet parents can log on to Petcentric.com and upload an image of their photogenic Fido for inclusion in one of five categories:
- Best Expression
- Best Athlete
- Best Troublemaker
- Most Lovable
- Best John O’Hurley Lookalike
A competition for a canine cause, for each contest entry Purina will donate $1 to Adopt-A-Pet.com, up to $50,000.
Fans of family Fidos can root for their favorite Rover by voting at Petcentric.com through December 30, 2010. The winners of each category will receive a Flip™ 4GB Camcorder Camera and the chance to compete for the title of “Best of Show,” which will be determined by contest judges.
The pet parents of the Best of Show Grand Prize winner will receive a trip for two to Aruba, which include a stay at an all-inclusive resort. Homeless pets living in the vicinity of the dog who wins the Grand Prize will also benefit, as Purina will donate $5,000 to a local shelter in the Grand Prize winner’s community.
