Her passion for the performing arts has touched our collective creative spirits over the course of her career, and now Paula Abdul’s compassion for both people and pets has touched our hearts.
The American Humane Association has awarded the entertainer for her dedication to the Pets and Women’s Shelter (PAWS)® Program, which assures that neither the spirits of domestic violence victims nor the bond they share with their four-legged family members is broken by the ordeal which they have endured.
Saddened by the statistics which show that up to 48 percent of abused women refuse to leave, or delay leaving, an abusive situation for fear of their pets’ safety, Abdul took on the role of pr-bono spokesperson for PAWS® in 2008. Since that time, the singer/choreographer/reality personality has helped to raise awareness and funds through PSAs and an eBay auction of items of Abdul’s personal attire.
