How to Make a Dog Collar

Share with fellow dog lovers!

collarToday we’ve got a DIY guest post from Bethany North that can save you money and provide you with a stylish collar that you personalize to fit your dog’s personality!

If you want to make a fashionable piece or even token of appreciation for man’s best friend, making a dog collar is much easier than you think!

Here are the supplies that you will need:

  • Nylon webbing
  • Ribbons, buttons, and trim
  • Parachute buckle
  • Nickel D-ring
  • Matching thread

Start out by threading your sewing machine with the matching thread, and cut a length of the webbing so that it is 6 inches longer than the measurement of your dog’s neck. Cut a strip of ribbon that is also 6 inches longer than your dog’s neck. It is also helpful to heat seal the end of the nylon webbing so that it won’t fray. Lay your printed ribbon over the webbing, and sew the edge of the ribbon onto the webbing.

Attach the male end of the buckle by looping it through the webbing and sewing the loop on either side. Before sewing the female end of the buckle on, thread the D-ring through the webbing. Create a loop to thread the female end of the buckle through, and sew securely. The ring will serve the purpose of hanging the dog tags from.

Finish by embellishing the dog collar with buttons, more ribbon, or other decorations. You definitely want to use decorations that are secure so your dog won’t chew or rub them off, but get creative!

This is a helpful and fun way to make a new collar for your dog so that it can fetch in style.
