My Guess as to My Dog’s Breeds: Lab and German Shepherd mix
How My Dog Came Into My Life: My boyfriend Jack had been looking for a dog for a very, very long time. His last pet, a mutt given to him by a close friend as a puppy, passed away about eight years ago at age 13, and he’d owned her for her entire life. He specifically wanted his next dog to be a large yellow female with a black mask. I’m not sure why he took a such a liking to this specific color, he’d never owned one like that before? We looked at several breed books, and I pointed out a few breeds, but he insisted on NOT buying a dog, telling me mutts are the best, and the only dog for him would be given to him for free. I scoffed at his wild “karma” theory, but I was definitely proven wrong! It was so strange. He went down to the riverbed near our house a few months ago, which sadly happens to be a popular dumping place for stray dogs. Waiting for him by his truck was this little girl. There were no other dogs that day wandering about – just her, patiently sitting there. She did find him, after all, and it was her lucky day!
Dirty and covered in ticks, he immediately gave her a bath and took her to the vet for shots. Because she still loves to play in the water and was found in a riverbed, so we named her “Rio” which is Spanish for River. We suspect her yellow color, silly attitude and broad chest make her part Lab, but are very curious to find out what else is hidden in our little river dog’s pedigree! She’s now spoiled rotten, and I have to admit, I’m a little jealous of how this blonde gal completely stole my boyfriend’s heart. But I knew it was fate, and there’s no way to fight a connection like this! I’m happy that both of them found each other at last.
