Adoptable Dog of the Day: Ester in Illinois

Adoptable Dog’s Name: Ester

Location (city, state) of Adoptable Pet: Huntley, IL

Age of Adoptable Dog: 8 years

Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier

What Makes This Dog Special:

Ester: I was rescued by Animal House Shelter when I was a year old and still remain here waiting for my forever family and that was a very long time ago. When I first came to the shelter, adoptions were much slower then and I didn’t get adopted right away, but that was okay because I still had hope. I then turned two years old and everyone that came to meet me said I was cute and sweet but they wanted someone younger.

Now I think I have just given up. Don’t get me wrong, I love the volunteers and staff but I know when they take me for a walk I am just going back to my kennel. So you see, I try not to get very excited about the people I’m meeting because I think I’m just going for another walk again, not a real home. All the people I meet say I that I am not personable enough or I wasn’t paying any attention to them. What they don’t understand is that I don’t know that they might want to take me home. All I know is the shelter and so I never think anything will change for me.

What Kind of Household Would be Best for this Dog?:

Q: What kind of forever home are you searching for?
Ester: I need a home where I am the only dog and someone is home with me most of the time. When I went into foster care, I did have separation anxiety since I haven’t had a person to call my own. I get very attached and I’m afraid I’m going to be abandoned again so I stress out when people leave me at home alone.

Q: What’s your best feature?
Ester: I adore children. I am the first one that the staff shows off to the girl/boy scouts troops, brownies and school field trips and I just eat it up!

Special Recommendations, Restrictions for Adoption of This Dog:

Q: What would it mean to you to find your forever family?
Ester: It would mean for the first time in my life I would have a family and a home where I can be loved.
