Today’s Adoptable Dog of the Day is Boomer, an adult purebred Coonhound. Boomer was found abandoned in a rural area and apparently had a rough life up to that point. He was badly emaciated and suffering from detached retinas. After being rescued by Star-Mar Rescue in Wooster, OH, Boomer has regained his health and energy and is now seeking a forever home. He has only partial vision and so is classified as a special needs dog. The folks at the shelter say that this problem doesn’t slow him down much, noting that “he races around the yard at lighting speed with his foster friends. He sees well enough to get around without difficulty and to run at full speed without running into anything.”
Boomer has a gentle disposition and loves to lie with his head in someone’s lap. He is quite vocal and will often “talk” to his human caregivers. He does need to have daily exercise so a home with active people would be a necessity. He likes other dogs and it would be best if he had another dog to bond with and a home with a fenced yard.
Boomer is four or five years old, neutered, up to date with his shots and is house trained. For someone who can give him the care he needs for his vision and can make sure he gets his exercise, Boomer will be a wonderful, loving companion.
