Product or Place I Am Reviewing: Salsa Dog Toy

My Dog’s Name: Ralphie

What I Liked About This Product or Place: It’s a soft toy that I can throw in the washing machine if it gets dirty.

What My Dog Liked About the Product or Place: My longhaired Dachshund, Ralphie, is extremely picky about his toys and this one is his absolute favorite! He carries it around everywhere and looks all depressed for the hour it takes to wash it in the washing machine. He’s not a big chewer though, he just gives it a couple chews and lays on it like a pillow, so I wouldn’t recommend it for dogs who are aggressive chewers.

As you know, we’re always looking for ways to help our readers donate to help animals, especially ways that won’t cost readers any extra money. We’ve just learned about an exciting new partnership between Walkers Shortbread, the world famous shortbread bakery based in the Scottish Highlands, and ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals).

Walkers has created a super cute new shortbread cookie (for humans) in the shape of a Scottish Terrier! These cookies make a cute gift for a fellow dog lover and, best of all, for every sale of these Scottie dog cookies, 10 cents will go to the ASPCA and their animal initiatives across the country, with a minimum promised donation of $25,000.

Walkers has been making their famous cookies for 110 years, and it’s still a family-run businesses, now headed by the founder’s grandchildren who still use the original recipes using only natural ingredients. In 2002 Walkers were granted a Royal Warrant of Appointment as suppliers of oatcakes to Her Majesty the Queen. For over 15 years, the company has produced a range of organic biscuits for Duchy Originals Limited, the company founded by HRH Prince of Wales in 1990 because of his belief in the clear advantages of organic farming. All Walkers shortbread, biscuits and oatcakes are free from artificial colors, flavors and additives; they are certified Kosher (OUD) and are suitable for vegetarians.

When she was rescued, she was in very bad shape and was nearly starving. Now under the care of 911 Pet Rescue, Inc. of Centerpoint, IN, Honey has overcome most of her health issues and has regained much of the weight she lost. She is very affectionate and sweet and loves getting attention. She is an older dog, so she tends to sleep a lot.

Because she has had a history of tumors, her health will need to be monitored closely. (Her last bloodwork showed no abnormalities.) Now all Honey needs is a nice, understanding home where she can become the pet she was meant to be.

Honey is spayed and up to date with her shots.

After a record drought here, we’ve been having some rain. Not heavy rain like we really need, mind you, but just enough to create mud in the yard. (And because of last summer’s drought, all of our grass except for the winter rye we’ve thrown out is gone. We’re down to bare dirt in places…and that, of course, means mud!)

And, as you well know, mud means muddy paws. Both our dogs have been taught “Paw” when we’re going to lift a paw to clean it and that really helps us keep the dogs’ paws a little bit cleaner. We clean each paw with an old towel we keep on the porch just for this purpose but it doesn’t help clean the area beneath the dogs’ nails.

Just like our own nails, your dog’s nails get dirt beneath them which can transport a lot of mud into the  house. We don’t usually notice that dirt at first…and then it dries and falls out somewhere inside the house!

Some people use a file to clean out that dirt but that can be dangerous if your dog jerks during the cleaning. Instead, we’ve been using the new Q-tips® Precision Tips™ cotton swabs. Like the original Q-tips, these cotton swabs have 100 percent pure cotton at each end but here’s where they differ: these Q-tips have a precision, pointed tip at each end!

Made especially for precision work like eye liner touch-ups and makeup application, these cotton swabs are also really useful for manicures and pedicures…or, in our house, PAWdicures!

Using the Q-Tips Precision Tips, I cleaned beneath Irie’s nails…

It was quick and easy to get the mud out from beneath Irie’s large nails (which grow amazingly fast. Why can’t my nails grow so quickly?!) I loved that, when I was done, the Q-tips® could just be discarded. There’s no cleanup as with other nail grooming tools. Best of all, the new Q-tips® Precision Tips™ cotton swabs are super inexpensive: just $2.49 for 170 swabs!

For more information on Q-tips® Precision Tips™ cotton swabs, visit the Q-tips Facebook page.

Disclosure: This is a sponsored post.  Q-tips® product was  provided by Unilever, the makers of Q-tips®; my tips and usage suggestions are my own.
