Texas author Barbara Gourley has lived all her life in the Texas Hill Country. Married for 46 years to husband Gerald, the couple operated a cattle ranch near Llano, Texas, raising two sons and caring for their land and animals which included a rambunctious Catahoula pup named Tip.
When Gerald fell seriously ill, both Barbara and Gerald found comfort in enjoying Tip’s antics as he became a full-fledged cattle dog. Barbara says that when Tip came into their life,
“it was as if I could read his thoughts. He was so hilarious. There were always new trials and tribulations to deal with as he was growing into a mature cowdog. This is Tip’s life from my point of view, one crisis after another.”
Aimed at reading-age children, The True Adventures of Tip The Catahoula-Leopard Cowdog is written in Tip’s voice and is beautifully illustrated with full-page color drawings. The book is available from Amazon.com ($17.95).
This true story of Texas ranch life is clearly a labor of love.
