You know how much we love projects that promote adoption (no, Irie and Tiki didn’t make us say that…but they approve!) We recently received a cuter than cute children’s book that promotes not only pet adoption but also healthful living around your dogs.
Wilson Gets Adopted tells the story of Wilson, a puppy who lived with a chronic smoker. When his caretaker becomes too ill to take care of Wilson and his fellow puppy, Peaches, the duo find themselves in the shelter system.
Wilson’s story has a wonderful resolution as he is adopted by award-winning artist Susan Castriota. Today Wilson has become the inspiration for Wilson Gets Adopted, the first in a series of children’s books starring this once homeless dog who helps share the message of the joy of adoption and the danger of secondhand smoke to our furry family members.
Wilson Gets Adopted was followed by Wilson Learns Manners!, a charming look at the manners both dogs and children learn. (My favorite: “When you are using a cell phone, never talk loudly in front of other people. They are not interested in your conversation.” Hooray, Wilson!!)
Both of these books are beautifully illustrated with colorful drawings of Wilson, many of them featuring Wilson in costume. Castriota is a professional illustrator whose work includes designing an ornament for the White House Christmas tree.
Along with his growing line of books, WilsonGetsAdopted.com even features a Wilson plush toy, thank you cards, and more.
A big paws up for this cute and meaningful line of children’s books!
