**This giveaway is closed. Out of 717 entries, our winners are Nancy, Mary J, Stacy D, and Deidre!**

You’ll remember that right after Thanksgiving, DogTipper went to Kansas to tour the Hill’s Pet Nutrition Center, the location in Topeka, Kansas where the company’s scientists and researchers work on formulating new foods. We learned they were formulating a new food, and now we can unveil this new product for four of you to try…even though it won’t be out in the stores until January!

Hill’s is making new, grain-free foods, the first grain-free foods from Science Diet for adult dogs (and cats). Hill’s® Science Diet® Ideal Balance™ natural food for dogs and cats features natural ingredients in perfect balance; these foods offer meat first, they have no corn, and they’re grain-free. (Curious about the new foods? We’ve got some food on the way to us to review but you can check out Hill’s new nutrient comparison tool right now.)

The first grain-free foods from Science Diet for adult dogs and cats are:

  • Hill’s® Science Diet® Ideal Balance™ Grain Free Adult Chicken & Potato Dinner dog food
  • Hill’s® Science Diet® Ideal Balance™ Grain Free Adult Chicken & Potato Dinner cat food

And they’re releasing three new formulas for kittens, adult cats, and mature adult cats, additional Ideal Balance™ foods that are a meat-first and do not contain corn but are made with vegetables like carrots, peas and broccoli. These new foods are:

  • Science Diet® Ideal Balance™ Kitten Chicken & Brown Rice Dinner
  • Science Diet® Ideal Balance™ Adult Chicken & Brown Rice Dinner
  • Science Diet® Ideal Balance™ Mature Adult Chicken & Brown Rice Dinner

We’d like to give our readers the chance to try these new foods for themselves! We’ve got four coupon codes for $49 EACH so you can try the food of your choice PLUS you get free shipping!

How to Enter

We’ve got several ways to enter in the Rafflecopter below. You can do as many or as few of the entry methods as you like. We’ll select the four winners through Rafflecopter using Random.org. This same Rafflecopter is running on CatTipper so you can enter either place for a chance to win the total of four prizes. This giveaway is open to US and Canada addresses; void where prohibited. The giveaway ends at 12:01am Eastern on Friday, Dec. 23, 2011. Note: the prize is a coupon code that will need to be used by Dec. 31, 2011. Good luck!

I learned that Purina One has very poor level of nutrients, not just poor ingredients.

  • Ranee Baker

I already know how good Science Diet is. My two basenjis have been eating it their entire lives. They are 12 years old and still act like puppies.

  • Vicki B.

I would love to try the new formula – I’ve been feeding Purina One and am looking for something better for my cat with a sensitive tummy.

  • edith

I’m glad to see Hill’s Science Diet is making a grain free dog food.

  • Misty

Nothing really surprized me but I do wonder where the “optimal range” came from.

  • Nancy

Not too surprizing, I hope it tastes good.

  • Rick

Nice to compare, but I wonder what others that aren’t listed look like.

  • Patti

Lost 2 German Shepherd Dogs to cancer & so has my daughter, we wonder if it’s because of the grain in the dog food. Corn is a carb & not healthy.

  • Dawn

If we win, we will donate the food to the pet food pantry or the Humane Society.

  • Sharon

Nice to see more Grain Free Dog Food

  • Tara Landers

It surprised me that their analysis is different that other sites.

  • Avrora Davidovna

I was surprised to see that it was somewhat comparable to my puppy’s premium food. I never thought Science Diet would come around!

  • Alexis

I have never liked Science Diet because the ingredients were always poor. I wonder if there are any byproducts in this. Maybe their finally coming to their senses… If I win, I will donate it to my local humane society (North Texas).

  • Alexis

  • Mary Witter

Was very disappointed to see that the Purina food I’ve fed my dog and cats is so low in nutrients. Not surprising, but happy to see Science Hill’s grain free dog food!

  • Mari

I’m surprised that they have more calcium than Blue Buffalo.

  • Lauren Peterson

I didn’t realize how little nutrients other foods had.

I’d love to win this to give to my mom/my dog, Biscuit, the Pembroke Welsh Corgi!!!!

  • Trudy B

I would love to try their new food with some of my kittes or dogs!

  • http://lifeofabeagle.blogspot.com/ katie

It has fruits and veggies and has a beagle on a teetor totter. My 2 beagle Mixes would love to win a free bag to try. When I first had Roxy she ate science diet for a short time but then someone told me to switch her food to something better but this formula does sound better and like something my girls would love.

  • Theresa Spaid

For being grain free it has all the nutrients & vitamins even more than the best dogs foods out there.

  • Lori Miller

I am surprised to see Science Diet finally making a higher quality/comparable food.

  • Mary Jensen

There are actual vitamins in Science Diet foods.

  • Amy Orvin

    Nothing really surprised me.

  • Shalana Head

I had no ideal that Ideal Balance offered more key nutrients in comparison to Blue Buffalo & it’s grain-free!

  • Cassandra

I’m astounded their actually taking the step to a grain free diet. I’ll wait to see the ingredient list though before I commend them since the food could still be poor quality dispite grain free depending on what animal products are used.

  • debbie

I am surprised that it was better than the top quality dog foods.

  • Danielle E.

I was surprised by the vitamin C and E in it

  • Kendra Gillilan

interesting to see the differences in dog food ingredients

  • susanne nolan

    TY for the contest!

  • Carol Binkley

I would love to try Grain Free on my doggies!

  • Jennifer Lachman

  • http://www.carolscrittercorner.com Carol

Looking forward to using this new food! Thank you.

  • Jenny Ham

I was suprised it is much better for my pets then most people food is for me.

  • alyce poalillo

I was interested in the Blue Buffalo comparisons and that Science Diet was higher in many nutrient categories.

  • Sandrine

I am surprised to see Hill’s Science Diet Ideal Balance offering more nutrients than some very good brand. I am currently feeding Nutro Natural Choice but may switch to Ideal Balance giving this comparison.

  • Angela

I’m surprised on the whole that Science Diet was even capable of bringing out a decent food. The food looks pretty good and comparable to several of the better brands.

  • http://www.facebook.com/yeralosersmile Melissa DogLover

I hope I win this. My dog would LOVE it!!!!

  • Pamela C

Your Link to the Nutrient Comparison does not work. I read Susan Thixton’s The Truth About Pet Food, she is the only blogger asking big pet food companies the hard questions. Science Diet was part of the largest law suit in the history of this country, and my 2 cats died from eating their poison food. If that was not bad enough, after that the only KD food I could put them on was from Hills. They appear to have cleaned up their act, at least until the next big recall.

  • Jessica

I’m really surprised that Ideal Balance is in the optimal range for all key nutrients, whereas the more expensive brand we’re currently using is not within optimal range for 4 of the 8 key nutrients

  • Victoria

not necessarily, I would never feed Hills regardless of whether they omit grains or not, the food is incredibly overpriced for what it contains and all they did was substitute grain with potatoes, which are still high in sugar.

  • Victoria

You need to look at the ingredients, for the quality its crappy and overpriced. Check out dogfoodadvisor.com and compare this food to 5 star kibbles.
