Win a Watercolor Batik Pet Portrait from!

IRIE-HEAD-SHOT-BATIK Like any proud parent, I just love, love portraits of our girls Irie and Tiki. Recently I was delighted to receive portraits of Irie and Tiki from PetPics4U is the creation of Kenneth Moore, a San Antonio-based artist.

Using a pet photo, Moore starts by creating a pen and ink drawing then uses wax and watercolor pigments on Ginwashi rice paper to create a really one-of-a-kind piece of art. You’ll see Irie’s portrait above and here’s Tiki’s portrait:

The color and details are truly breathtaking! I’m so proud of these portraits which now hang proudly in my office!

Now one of our readers will have the chance to win a 9.5″ x 12.5″ watercolor batik portrait on rice paper of their pet!

I would love my beloved dog “Wolf”, who I rescued from a neglected home when he was under eight weeks old and he was stepped one when he couldn’t even walk yet, he also fell down a flight of stairs when he was only a couple of weeks old. These are some injuries the baby came to me in according to the recent owner, who absolutely disgusts me. I brought him to the vet immediately upon receiving him and he was diagnosed with many medical issues due to the injuries that occurred and because of the condition of the mother (3) and the father (15) were in at the time of conceiving. He lived a some what normal life on much needed medication until the morning of May 1st, 2013 he was brought in an a scheduled appointment for a neutering and I dropped him off, only to get a call an hour later stating I needed to get to the clinic immediately. I did so with my partner and we ran down the street al the way to the clinic in a sheer panic, I still remember running in bare feet. 🙁 We got to the clinic and we were escorted to the back exam room and there we saw our baby hooked up to hoses and machines all around. They had been keeping him alive for about 45 minutes, but after 15 there is permanent brain damage. My partner was in pure pain of the heart and so was I. I had to tell the vet to stop and let him go, immediately there was no life left. His little heart crashed immediately after being sedated in the early stages it killed him. We found out it was due to the unseen physical damage he truly suffered when we had received him. They couldn’t even believe he survived as long as he did, he was 8 months old. They stated we had kept his spirit alive because we really loved him, disabilities and all and that was all he ever wanted like an other pet. The ironic part of this story too is that I myself have some physical and health disabilities and when he was here it was a real honor to have been his friend and owner. The same goes to my partner who loved him so dearly and it took a long time to get over the situation and the angry and hate we had towards the previous owner. Now we think about him still and we laugh about the crazy and silly personality he had, he was so downright loveable. We in a way in Wolf’s name rescue and foster animals that we can and we purely do it out of love and our own money. We appreciate these beautiful animals and show them that we do, we have so far been successful in ever rescue and foster we have participated in.
