Helping Your Pets Lose Weight with #HillsPet Metabolic Diet (& a Giveaway!)

Are your pets overweight?

hills1Honestly. Are they?

It’s hard to admit that our pets are carrying extra weight. It makes us feel like bad pet parents when, with those extra treats and over-sized meal portions, we were aiming for exactly the opposite. We wanted to see our pets happy and healthy. But the results are quite to the contrary. Carrying too much weight can lead to a whole list of health problems for your pets–not to mention the fact that your pet just doesn’t feel as energetic and perky as he or she would at the correct weight.

If your pets are overweight, you’re not alone. In the US, 53% of dogs and 55% of cats are now overweight.

Just how can you tell if your pet is overweight? We recently took part in a conference call about Hill’s® Prescription Diet® Metabolic Advanced Weight Solution.

The answer to determining if your pet is the correct weight is right at your fingertips–literally. Make a fist and feel your knuckles. If your pet’s ribs feel like the knuckles of your clenched fist, then your pet is underweight. Now relax your hand. Now with your hand open, feel the knuckles on the back of your open hand. This is what your pet’s ribs should feel like if he’s the correct weight.

Flip over your hand and feel those same knuckles but on your palm. This is what your pet’s ribs will feel like if he’s overweight.

We’ve worked hard to keep Irie and Tiki at a correct weight but our cat Coco is overweight:

She’s a big cat weighing in at 16.8 pounds. Over the next few months, we’ll be taking part in a food trial of Hill’s. You’ll be able to follow Coco’s weight loss journey on CatTipper.com, starting next month. We’re hopeful of her results because 88 percent of pets on this diet lost weight in two months at home as well as 28 percent body fat loss in dogs in two months and 29 percent body fat loss in cats in two months.

Our first step to getting Coco on this new diet, which is very similar to the human Mediterranean diet, was to visit our veterinarian for a prescription. Now, we’ll be trying the Hill’s® Prescription Diet® Feline Metabolic Advanced Weight Solution dry food, Hill’s® Prescription Diet® Feline Metabolic Advanced Weight Solution wet food and Hill’s® Prescription Diet® Feline Metabolic Advanced Weight Solution treats with Coco. We’re looking forward to sharing our results!
