#whosYourDaddy_edited-2
You know how much we LOVE mixed breed dogs–in fact, our own Irie and Tiki are mixes of mixes. A few years ago, we had our Tiki’s DNA tested using Wisdom Panel and, to the surprise of everyone, she turned out to be primarily doberman and poodle with lesser amounts bulldog and Sheltie!

Now it’s time to learn the heritage of another dog well-known in the pet blog world AND enter to win a Wisdom Panel DNA kit for your own mixed breed dog! We know you’re all familiar with DaVinci who, through The DaVinci Foundation for Animals, has helped raise thousands of dollars for the homeless dogs of Detroit.

Although DaVinci is well-known for his efforts to help homeless dogs, one thing that’s NOT known about this pint-sized powerhouse is his heritage…until now. DaVinci has now taken the Wisdom Panel dog DNA test and soon everyone will be learning which breeds make up this one-of-a-kind dog!

We’d like you to take part in the fun of guessing DaVinci’s heritage and, in the process, earn entries to win your own Wisdom Panel test for your dog!

To help you make your guess, we wanted to share some more photos on this special dog who was found, just hours old, with his mother, Mona, still pregnant with other pups. Here’s a photo of DaVinci  (right) and his mom:

And here’s DaVinci as just a pup:

Here’s DaVinci with his mom and siblings, too:

And here’s a video with more on this Detroit celebrity:

So what breeds do YOU think make up DaVinci’s heritage? You can enter your guesses in the widget below. While DaVinci’s mom is known, who’s his daddy? In honor of Father’s Day this month, Wisdom Panel will be putting DaVinci’s DNA to the test and will be answering that question!

You’ll also find other ways to enter including sharing a photo of your own mixed breed dog! The winner will be selected at random so please don’t worry about making a wrong guess…we just love seeing everyone’s fun guesses as we wait for DaVinci’s DNA results. On July 1, we’ll have a special unveiling of the results in a live ceremony via Skype so stay tuned!

How to Enter

You can enter in the widget below…good luck!

Wisdom Panel is providing the prize for this giveaway.

  • RitaMeow

DaVinci is a dachshund, Pitcairn terrier and welsh corgi mix – best guess anyway, lol

    • RitaMeow

Here is a photo of @missstellybean! Her mom was a white wiry terrier but no idea who the daddy was….we think dachshund/chihuahua mix but who knows, lol

      • http://www.dogtipper.com/ Paris & John

        She is a purebred cutie!!

        • RitaMeow

Thank you so much! Everyone always ask me what breed she is, they think she’s a designed dog…I’ve started telling people that she’s a micro Shepard, hahaha

  • januarywins

I think DaVinci is dachshund, beagle, and rat terrier mix.

    • januarywins

      Here’s our newest addition, Trout.

This is Snarls Barkley. I have a pretty good idea what he is, but would love to find out for sure.

  • Cathy

This is Dally! She hunts, retrieves, chases, does lure coursing, dives & swims, and herds. I sure would like to know what she is!

  • Shammiedog

I think DaVinci is Dachshund and Pug!

Brutus would love to know more about his genetics!

Brutus would love to know more about his family history!

  • Kelly Ann T

I would love to figure out what breeds make up Artie. I get many questions about what type of dog that is when I’m walking him.

    • Kelly Ann T

My upload failed, so I’m trying it again.

      • Linda Szymoniak

Wow, what an absolutely stunning dog.

        • Kelly Ann T

Thank you. Linda. We cannot believe no-one wanted him. He was 1 hr away from the being put down when a rescue group stepped in to save him. We we able to adopt him from them.

          • Linda Szymoniak

Three of my five Coonhounds were in the same position – pulled for me with only 1-2 hours to spare. Kyoko had nearly been starved to death and a rescue was supposed to pull her, but bailed last-minute. I adopted her directly from the shelter. All three of these dogs came from NC and SC and were 700-800 miles away from me when I adopted them.

      • dawn rasor

Kelly, Artis is beautiful! I’d guess golden and collie. We have collies

  • knightsbud

dachshund and beagle would be my guess of the breed.

  • Kelly Ann T

I think DaVinci is a dachshund, pug, and beagle

  • lazybones344

    Dachshund, lab and beagle.

  • Angela Cash

Smoochie, the mystery pooch – I scooped him up running down the middle of a 4 lane highway. Nobody every claimed him so he is now officially a member of our family.

  • Ruckus the Eskie

    Brutus

  • Linda Szymoniak

I’m guessing DaVinci has both Beagle and Daschshund. Perhaps some other breeds, but these seem to be the main ones.

  • Linda Szymoniak

I have five Treeing Walker Coonhounds. Three appear to be pretty much purebred, but the other two likely have something else in their DNA. I’d like to find out more about the breeds in my other two – especially Seiji, since he does appear to have a lot of Coonhound in him, but obviously has other breeds. His fur is longer/softer. His ears are thicker/shorter. He has a very tapered muzzle with a brown nose (not black as you get with Coonhounds). It’s not uncommon for a TWC to be bi-colored, like Seiji, but in addition to his mostly two-tone coloring (he has a tiny bit of black around one eye – the other is a “ghost” eye), the color and pattern actually make me think more Brittany Spaniel (although they are much smaller) or some bigger Setter or Spaniel breed. I’ve been wanting very much to get him tested.

  • Tracy Pryor

    I’m guessing he is a chiweenie (dachshund+chihuahua. )

  • Jaime

    I’m guessing dachshund and beagle.

  • Jaime

My dog was born in a remote Malawian village, and I adopted him while I was serving in the Peace Corps. I know nothing about his ancestry. I do know, however, that recent research on African village dogs has shown them to be genetically distinct from non-indigenous breeds. I’m really curious to know what his DNA results might look like — perhaps it will contain an indigenous breed like the basenji, or perhaps a foreign breed will make an appearance, or maybe it will just be a big “unknown.”

    • Guest

      Oops, trying again.

  • Catie

    This is my boy!

  • Guest

I was told Summer was a purebred Shih Tzu but I believe she has some other breed in there too.

  • Karen H

I was told Summer was a purebred Shih Tzu but I think she has some genes in their that don’t belong! Chihuahua maybe?

    • Karen H

Picture is not showing does upload!!

  • Guest

    See below

  • dawn rasor

I think DaVinci’s breeds are Border Terrier, dachschund, and maybe some beagle or boxer or pug too.

  • Margie Rohauer

  • Karen H

I think DaVinci is Dachsund (of course), Boston Terrier and beagle mix

  • Guest

Reggie is a rescue dog. My best guess is chihuahua and some kind of terrier. He is about 15 lb. Maybe he is a terrier-huahua. Any other ideas?

  • Daraya

I think DaVinci has dachshund and maybe corgi heritage!

  • Daraya

When we adopted Hazel from a rescue, they said she was a lab/german shepherd mix. I know she is definitely lab (her floppy ears, webbed feet, and love of water and swimming), but I’m not so sure about German Shepherd! The only resemblance she has to a German Shepherd is her coat color, but lots of other breeds have the same black-brown coat colors (rottweilers, dobermans). Plus, her curled tail and black spots on her tongue are characteristics of a Chow. But she is fully-grown and only 47 lbs! I’m so curious as to what other breed she is a mix of that makes her so small! :)

    • Kristen

Hazel looks to me like she might me part Rhodesian Ridgeback…

      • Kristen

        *be* :)

  • Sarah

Looks like Dad might have been a Puggle! They’re all beautiful, and Mom is so tiny!

  • Sarah

This is Daphne. I think she’s a Chiweenie, but I’ve had people tell me she must be a Min Pin or have some Doberman in her.

  • Mary W

Fun to see everyone’s mixed breeds. Thanks for posting photos! DaVinci could be several breeds both large and small. Will be fun to read the DNA results. Terrier, Dachshund and ???

  • Ellen Wexler

My special girl. High drive, athletic, sweet, people-lover, long legs, brown nose, 21 pounds.

  • Marissa

    I will guess that he’s a dachshund/chihuahua (Chiweenie).

Here’s my mixed breed puppy. She looks like a smaller version of a Brittany spaniel and weighs about 12 lbs. at 6 months old.

  • jen

    Chiweenie/Lab mix??

  • jen

i’ve been told my sweet boy Snuffy(Snuffalumpagous) is a tibetan terrier/bassett hound mix. I’m curious what he really has in him ;) he’s SUPER short and definitely has bassett hound bowlegs, but he has fluffy lion hair!

  • Becca

    He looks like a pug/beagle or a pug/daschund.

  • Stacy

This is Bowser. We were told he’s part Chihuahua, but we don’t know what else!

  • Rachel T

Perhaps he’s a Beagweenie! I just like that name. :-) Seriously though I would almost bet on some type of hound dog.

This is Prince. When we got him, the shelter sheet said Lhasa, but he is a mixed coat (curly at back) and some other features (very short legs and long body) that make us and the vet think he is mixed with something. So, we say he is Lhasa, but think he does have something else in him too…Always wanted to get a kit to test it :)

  • Jennifer Leigh Dace

I think DaVinci has beagle and dashchund in there somewhere.

  • Arik Issan

davinci looks just like my doxie – all good

  • girlonthem00n

I think DaVinci might be Chihuahua, Dashchund and maybe pug or beagle?

  • Christine Aiello

    Daschund and Beagle?

  • dawn rasor

I would like to use this on my grankids dog Roxie. We have no idea what kind of mix she is but she sure is sweet!

  • Daraya

I would love to see what breeds my dog, Summer, is! She is supposedly a mastiff mix, but she is only 40 lbs. at 6-months, so I don’t think she is going to be much over 60 lbs!

  • andie

So cute – I’m terrible for guessing breeds…maybe a Beagle or Dashhound??

  • Amber

    Daschund mix

    Chihuahua and Dachshund mix

  • http://4leggedbloggers.blogspot.com/ Heather & Andrew S

The one on the right is the one I would like to test (his sister on the left was a foster dog that was adopted from the rescue group) we adopted the boy, he was very attached to the other dog we already had and we couldn’t separate the two.

I think DaVinci is Dachshund and Rottweiler mix.

  • Jill

This is Dolly. I think she is a Pit Bull Mix but I am not sure what she could be mixed with?

  • Natalie Carlson Brown

Hello! I would guess DaVinci is mixed with beagle, dachshund, and Rhodesian ridgeback. Thank-you for the chance!!

  • Janette Hartje

    I think DaVinci’s Daddy is a Beagle Mix…

  • Janette Hartje

This is Lona, supposed to be a Lab/Shar Pei mix & a wonderful girl!!

  • Janette Hartje

    Pics didn’t post, tried again…

  • Janette Hartje

    still didn’t post…

  • Debbie

Mama is definitely Dachshund. I see some some Chihuahua, terrier, and something else that would produce some size and the dark nose and tail. Boxer?

I love my mixed breeds and have had many. When you just want a great companion, you can’t beat an “All American”! I’d put any of my mixed breeds up against a pedigreed dog for health, intelligence, and disposition. Love my mutts.

  • http://www.tiffanysdiamonddogs.com/ Tiffany’s Diamond Dogs

Maybe Pug and Dachshund. A little bit of Chihuahua.

  • Abby C

I think DaVinci has Pug, Beagle, and Dachshund in him :)

  • Abby C

This is Bailey, and I would like to figure out what breed she is. So far I think she is chihuahua and affenpinscher.

  • Sacha B

Here’s my boy Noah….was only told Labrador mix when I got him. As a puppy he was slightly wrinkly and he does have a few black spots on his tongue, a friend guessed he has some Shar Pei in him and then he became a little more vocal during play as he got older and I discovered he definitely has some hound dog in him too – many people love his howl!

  • Sacha B

DaVinci obviously has Dachsund in him and then I would guess maybe Beagle and Pug

  • Laura Filtness

My mixed babies! What oh what are they!?!?

  • Annette

Milton is my 50lb dog from an animal shelter. They say he is beagle, spaniel and something mix. We think he might have some boxer in him, but we love him no matter what!

  • Karen Drake

I would guess that DiVinci is a mix of dachshund, cocker spaniel.

  • Melissa K. Bauer

I think Da Vinci is a mix of Dachshund, beagle & Pug.

Smoochie, the mystery pup! I found him running down a 4 lane highway. Nobody ever claimed him so he is now a permanent member of our family.

  • Angela Tombazzi

Pearl has long legs and floppy ears. She is highly energetic and full-grown now at 30 lbs. We don’t know her breeds.

  • Katy M.

I think DaVinci is a mix of beagle and dauchund!

  • LyricInTime2803

I actually want it for my sister’s dogs- she’s been wanting to test them for years! Some of the main breeds are “obvious” but in person, they have traits of a lot of different breeds that always make her wonder. This is Chewy below- I can’t get her other dog’s (Jack) picture to load.

  • Katy M.

Here are some pictures of my Bruno! We believe he is a mixture of pug/french bulldog/Chihuahua . He has the curly pug tail and ears that stick straight up! People always ask what kind of dog he is. We’ve gotten everything from a miniature boxer to a boston terrier mix. We would love to know exactly what makes up our baby boy.
