What It Is: plush dog toy stuffed with natural treats. The first Puppy Piñata is a plush blue dog named Poncho. A small pouch is pre-stuffed with beef jerky treats infused with Glucosamine (promotes joint health) and Omega-3 (fish oil).
Poncho comes in two sizes: for Small-Medium and Medium-Large dogs (for dogs more than 40 lbs). All Puppy Piñata treats are made in the United States.
DogTipper Review: We couldn’t think of a better test for the Puppy Piñata than our dog Irie who demolishes toys at a pace faster than we’ve ever witnessed in a dog. We gave her the Puppy Piñata and then just stood back.
Irie immediately knew the toy contained treats and started working to open the treat pocket. Within a minute, the pocket was opened and the treats were consumed, all enjoyed with a wagging tail. Surprisingly, though, the toy didn’t follow suit; she carried the toy around and played with it for quite a while. The press materials for the toy mention that “After eating the treats, dogs often carry the empty Puppy Piñata around for days. They may even sleep with it.” While it may not have survived at our house for days (and no plush toy ever has), our dog, however, did get a lot of enjoyment out of it. It’s easy to see why Dr. Marty Becker, the vet often seen on Good Morning America, named this a “Pet Product Breakthroughs of the Year.”
Another aspect of Puppy Piñata we really liked is that, for each purchase, a portion of the sale is donated to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) International.
If there’s any downside to the Puppy Piñata, it could be that, for dogs that don’t normally destroy plush toys (and we hear rumors that there are some out there…), this toy could get dogs in the habit of tearing into a toy (although they don’t actually have to rip the material to reach the treats.)
If you have a particularly non-destructive dog, the Puppy Piñata could even be refilled with other treats and enjoyed multiple times.
