DogTipper Review: When we first picked up Fit as Fido, a book by neurologist and professor Dawn A. Marcus, we were a little worried…would this guide be too fitness-oriented for two middle-aged writers to keep up with? Or maybe too scientific for us to comprehend?
We need not have worried. This 127-page book is a fun, easy-to-follow book that provides suggestions on, as its subtitle says, ways you can follow your dog’s lead to better health. The author, who is a consultant for Del Monte’s “Power of Paws” program, has broken down some of the best habits of the canine world–from exercise to attitudes–and used them as examples for ways humans can adjust to lead happier, healthier lives.
Chapters in this guide include:
- Eat Like a Dog
- Play Like a Dog
- Sleep Like a Dog
- Be Man’s Best Friend
- and more
With many bullet point lists, Dr. Marcus provides easy-to-read, easy-to-follow suggestions (and ones you can implement whether you have a dog in your life or not at this point.) You’ll find instructions on how to stretch (and we all know a dog is a pro at this!), tips on adopting a regular sleeping routine (again, we sure need to follow the lead of dogs here), and a chart for making a schedule to get in the dog walks, regularly scheduled meal times, and more.
Best of all during these tough economic times, many of these tips won’t cost you a penny. As Dr. Marcus points out:
“…if you’re having a bad day or bad week–don’t despair–don’t give up–don’t just sit in the dog house. Get up–get the leash–get outside–get moving–get engaged with your community–and get healthy. Live the dog’s life!”
