Book Title: Don’t Dump the Dog: Outrageous Stories and Simple Solutions to Your Worst Dog Behavior Problems

Author:
Randy Grim with Melinda Roth; Foreword by Loretta Swit.

DogTipper Review: I have to confess; when I was offered the chance to review Don’t Dump the Dog, I was a little nervous. I am just not able to handle sad dog books (or dog movies)…so the idea of reading a book about the excuses people use to return adopted shelter dogs written by the man who has saved countless street dogs and runs St. Louis’s nonprofit Stray Rescue seemed like the ultimate in sad dog stories.

But I was wrong.

This isn’t a book about sad stories; it’s a funny, educational, and inspiring story about a devout dog lover and how he has been able to get many of those potential dog dumpers to rethink their decision to return the dog. Written in a comical, sometimes maniacal, always fast-moving style, this was a book I found I just couldn’t put down.

Each chapter, from “Cujo in the Dog Park” to “Dogs Who You-Know-What in the House,” takes a look at a common problem. Specific examples using both Grim’s own dogs and dogs that have passed through Stray Rescue fill the pages, along with accompanying tips. Don’t worry about getting bogged down in an extensive training manual; this book features easy (and cheap) ideas to implement such as the recipe for “Randy’s Tequila Lime Turd Spray” to put an end to a dog’s coprophagia problem. (See, I told you this wasn’t a tear-jerker!)

This book is a definite must-read for dog lovers!
