DogTipper Review: Looking for a nutritious snack or a supplement for a picky eater? We recently had the chance to sample the variety of supplemental foods from Peoplefood for Dogs.

Arriving with freeze packs via Priority Mail from their Virginia home to our Texas office, the samples arrived cold and intact, ready to be thawed and sampled by our taste testers. Each of the 16-ounce snacks was in a clear plastic container much like those you might expect to get side dishes in at a takeout restaurant.

Our dogs began with the Chicken, Sweet Potato and Oatmeal snack, served at a rate of 1/3 a cup per 10 pounds of the dog’s body weight. The food, which we’d warmed to room temperature, was mixed with a little water and then ready to serve. The snack (which is 7.9 percent crude protein) was an instant hit.

In the coming days, our dogs sampled Peoplefood for Dogs’ Chicken and Rice (6.95 percent protein), made solely from cooked rice and cooked chicken, both run through a food processor. Future days brought Chicken, Sweet Potato and White Potato (6.9 percent protein), Chicken and Oatmeal (8.54 percent protein), and even a snack (7 percent protein) made of cooked rice, chicken and veggies (carrots, corn, peas, green beans, and lima beans.)

Each was an instant hit with our dogs.

When used as a supplement to other food, the refrigerated food can last quite a while (a stamped expiration date on each package was four months in the future). Peoplefood for Dogs recommends you ask your vet for recommendations.

A definite paws up!

In Their Words: Here’s an overview of the various products from Peoplefood for Dogs:

  • Chicken and rice – sick dog, tummy troubles.
  • Chicken and oatmeal – chubby needs a diet food. Add defrosted green beans and carrot, hot water and pour over the new diet food. Chubby will think he had a great meal and never suspect he is on a diet.
  • Chicken, oatmeal and sweet potato – have an old dog not interested in dry food any more? Add hot water, pour over the dry food – new motivation!
  • Chicken, sweet and white potato – just because a dog has a grain allergy doesn’t mean he shouldn’t have a great treat!
  • Chicken, rice and mixed vegetables – this is low in protein and makes a great snack for dogs with kidney problems. Or just a change of pace.

Availability: Available at a variety of Virginia locations or can be shipped

I love all versions of Peoplefood for Dogs! I began using it years ago when mixing in medications, and my dogs liked it so much I couldn't stop! Our favorite is the Chicken, Sweet Potato, and Oatmeal recipe. It's cheaper than good quality cans of food, and it helps my dogs get water in their diet too because I also mix in warm water and the Peoplefood for Dogs soaks it up and hydrates everyone!

I have been lucky enough to be one of the first ones to try all the different flavors of Peoplefood for Dogs.My cainine companion, Buddy, as been eating it for years and is one of the taste testers. When I have to be away from home he will not eat his dry food, so my mom who is 90 yrs.old adds Peoplefood for Dogs to it and a little water and he cleans his bowl. When he has an upset tummy he gets the Chicken and rice. His favorite is Chicken, Sweet Potatoe and White Potatoe. He always looks forward to trying out a new flavor.
