Coolaroo Dog Beds

We first spotted Coolaroo dog beds in the summer, a time when they’re promoted as a way to get your dog a few inches up off the ground to enjoy some cooling air circulation around him. Before we could research and consider the beds for our dogs, though, we ran into one at a thrift store and bought it immediately. The hottest weather was already over…would the dogs like it?

It turned out to be a silly question…the dogs didn’t like it, they loved it. We really lucked out and the thrift store purchase was a large size meant for large dogs. Our 73-pound and 55-pound dogs had plenty of room to relax with a good bone and the bed never seemed to give or strain (even when they both got on the bed together!)

The cover (replacement covers are available) is made of a knitted fabric that breathes and is flea and tick resistant. Muddy pawprints come off with a quick washing with the garden hose.

Along with keeping dogs cooler in hot weather, the bed also keeps them dry and up off damp surfaces. The bed is very lightweight and we carry ours inside frequently.

The bed is also great for dogs that have some stiffness and trouble getting up; supporting their weight as they sleep helps prevent that morning stiffness.

Pillows are also available as is a folding model for travel (although we haven’t tried that model).

We liked our dog bed so much that Paris purchased one for her parents’ dog. We then learned one potential drawback of the bed: getting the cover over the frame takes some patience. It’s all worth in in the end, though; dogs really love the Coolaroo!
