What It Is: Eco-friendly dog beds
Manufacturer: Greener Pup, a company founded by celebrity green designer Kari Whitman, a special correspondent for Extra who has appeared on The Today Show, Entertainment Tonight, Access Hollywood, Inside Edition and Hollywood Green. She is a regular columnist on pet-friendly design in Dog Fancy magazine and is also writing a book about animal- and eco-friendly design.
DogTipper Review: We loved the idea of these dog beds from the moment we heard about them: they’re filled with fibers made from 100 percent recycled plastic (one pound of bed filling is made from 10 recycled plastic bottles–so just one dog bed might prevent over 100 bottles from winding up in landfills!) Even the stylish coverings are sewn from fabrics that have been discontinued or overstocked. Beds are completely made in the US. And we especially loved that proceeds from the sales go to Kari Whitman’s Ace of Hearts rescue (more on that below), saving thousands of shelter pups.
Of course, the star-stuck side of us loved that these beds have been chosen by stars including Jessica Alba, Katherine Heigl, Denise Richards, Jennifer Love Hewitt, and Kristen Bell for their four-legged friends. The GreenerPup.com site is sprinkled with photos of celebs and their canines with their Greener Pup beds.
And we adored the huge selection of beautiful fabrics (we selected Christmas Meadow, a 100 percent cotton fabric); solids are also available.
But the true test of the bed wasn’t what we thought, it was what the dogs thought. We unboxed the bed Greener Pup sent us to review, 
put it in the living room in the dogs’ favorite place, and stood back to watch.
The large, rectangular bed we reviewed was large enough for our Irie, a 75-pound lab mix, to enjoy in any position (if your dog is larger, there’s also an extra large model). Both dogs were even able to lie side by side on the bed comfortably.
Extra puffy, the deep bed allowed the dogs to snuggle down into the bed for a nap or for the night.
This bed has been a real hit in our household; it is never without at least one occupant!
Cats Love Greener Pup, Too While these are called Greener Pup beds, we found that these could just as well be called Greener Cat beds…our cats take every opportunity to occupy the bed! If you’re looking for an eco-friendly cat bed, we’d definitely recommend these.
For a Paws Cause: 100% of the profits from the sales of these beds goes to the Ace of Hearts Foundation, Kari’s non-profit. This rescue saves shelter dogs on the day they are to be euthanized and places them in loving homes. So far, the sales of these beds have helped rescue over 2,000 dogs!
Styles: Greener Pup makes four styles of beds: a round bed, a rectangular bed (which you see in our photos), a “cuddle bug” rectangular sofa bed, and a “cuddle bug” round sofa bed. Each bed comes in four sizes: small, medium, large (photographed in this article), and extra large.
Covers: Each bed comes with a free zippered cover; you can also purchase additional covers in your choice of fabric.
