DogTipper Review: Dog paws mean, all too often, muddy dog paws. Lately we’ve been having a drought here so you might think that would mean a shortage of muddy paw prints in our home…but no. The drought means half the yard is dead and bare and the other half needs watering. Our dogs, of course, have a knack for finding the wet, bare spots and getting muddy before we even turn our backs. We’ve been keeping a supply of old towels by the front door to “do paws” as we tell them (and they’re very good about letting us clean their paws) but, as all dog lovers know, there are better ways to spend the day for both us and the dogs than cleaning muddy paws.
So we were really interested to receive a Soggy Doggy Doormat to review. This 26″ x 36″ doormat is made from microfiber chenille, a blend of 80 percent polyester and 20 percent nylon. It’s a combination that Soggy Doggy promises will absorb five times more water than regular cotton doormats…and it can hold seven times its weight in water.
We unrolled the mat. It certainly looked absorbent. A tall chenille “shag” looked ready to soak up water:

As soon as the mat hit the floor, Tiki and one of our cats, Felix, headed over to check it out. They were pretty sure it would be a cozy place for a nap:
But napping was just a side benefit of this mat. It was time to put it to the real test. It was time for the sprinkler.
On went the sprinkler and, just as predicted, over went the dogs. Irie has very little fur between her toes so she’s not as much of a test as Tiki, who needs her spring haircut and has plenty of paw padding to tote water and mud into the house. They romped around then headed for the front door. Time for the test.
The mat did a great job, soaking up the water and mud as they tracked across the mat. As promised, the mat was very quick drying. We took the mat outside and shook out the dried dirt that afternoon and the doormat is machine washable (dry on low but no fabric softeners.)
