Review: Hipster Puppies by Christopher R. Weingarten

Book: Hipster Puppies

Author: Christopher R. Weingarten

Publisher: New American Library

DogTipper Review: Fans of rock critic Christopher Weingarten already know the writer has taken his knowledge of all things hipster and applied it to dogs in his Hipster Puppies blog. Now the Brooklyn-based music writer has assembled his sassy Spots in a newly-published book, Hipster Puppies.

Weingarten grew up in a home filled with chihuahuas, poodles, and Pekingese pups thanks to his mother’s love of the breeds. That background–combined with an awareness of the huge number of hipster-related blogs populating the Internet–prompted the critic to launch his own site, according to the book’s publicity materials, “as a self-aware parody.”

Soon the site evolved into Hipster Puppies, a full-color, glossy paperback contains 125+ photos, each with irreverent, snarky and sometimes profane captions:

All the photos have one thing in common, though…

…they all feature some very cute pups! Entertainment Weekly said of Hipster Puppies, “If there’s anything better than adorable puppies, it’s adorable emo puppies with bed head, ironic sunglasses, and snobby musical tastes.”

Hipster Puppies publishes on July 5, 2011 and is priced at $14.
